The Wilson County School System serves 11,677 students, including those from the City of Wilson, in three modern high schools, six middle schools, and fourteen elementary schools. Through a yearlong strategic planning process, the system has identified and begun to implement many bold initiatives which will ensure a continuation of excellent educational opportunities for all students in Wilson County Schools.

In addition to its public schools, the county is also home to Greenfield School, Wilson Christian Academy and St. Therese Catholic School The Eastern NC School for the Deaf, a public residential school for deaf children from kindergarten through grade twelve, is also located in Wilson.

Vocational and technical education are available at Wilson Technical Community College. Wilson Tech offers a range of courses varying from Associate Degrees in Accounting and Business Administration to Nursing and Manufacturing Engineering. In addition, the Tech offers many continuing education courses.

Barton College is a four year liberal arts institution offering degrees in a variety of fields. The college offers career placement services for its students, an active athletic department, and modern resources in a small school community setting.
