Location: Wilson is centrally located on the Eastern seaboard, halfway between New York and Florida along Interstate 95. Wilson is located 45 miles east of Raleigh, North Carolina and the Research Triangle Park.

Climate: The annual average temperature is 63.0 degrees. The monthly average temperatures for January and June respectively are 44.0 and 77.0 degrees. Annual average rainfall is 46.9 inches and there is little or no snowfall in the winter. Wilson's elevation is 147 feet.

Health Care: Extensive medical services are available in Wilson. Wilson Memorial Hospital, a private, nonprofit acute care facility operating 270 beds, has more than 80 physicians on its medical staff -- 85% of whom are board-certified, representing twenty-one specialties. Wilson Same Day Surgery Center at Wilson Memorial Hospital and the Surge Center of Wilson provide Wilson with two outpatient surgery centers to serve the residents of Wilson and the surrounding areas.

Medical appointments can be scheduled throughout practices in Wilson and at nearby satellite clinics -- including Kenly, Stantonsburg, Elm City, Middlesex and Bailey.

The Wilson County Health Department and Wilson-Greene Mental Health Center provide a full range of health and mental health services. The health department, providing home care and other services, is very active in promoting better health throughout the county and routinely sponsors a number of educational programs. The mental health center, staffed by two psychiatrists, offers a variety of programs for better mental health, including outpatient treatment.

Recreation: The City of Wilson is well supplied with recreational facilities. Facilities include a modern 3,000 seat stadium, used for various outdoor events. The City owns and operates numerous parks, playgrounds, and recreation centers. The Park and Recreation Department operates and maintains various outdoor facilities including swimming pools, (one with a year-round enclosed bubble), eighteen tennis courts, reservoirs for skiing, boating, and fishing; Wedgewood, a public eighteen hole golf course; and numerous ballfields. In addition, Wilson has two several golf clubs and two private Country Clubs.

Culture, Arts and Entertainment: The Arts Council of Wilson, Inc., a nonprofit organization located in the historic BB&T building downtown, seeks to promote the cultural arts in Wilson County. The Arts Council has approximately ten gallery exhibits per year featuring many different art media. The Arts Council of Wilson sponsors concerts, classes, workshops, children's events, arts in school, professional theater, dance, music touring companies, and many other activities throughout the year. Fun awaits both children and adults at Wilson's unique science museum. Located downtown in Wilson's former historic post office and courthouse, Imagination Station is a dynamic science and math learning center with more than 100 hands-on exhibits and a state of the art computer lab. The entire family can touch, spin, pet, climb, listen, look, and learn in a fun environment.

Shopping: Wilson is known to be the "City of Antiques". There is no area in North Carolina better known for the fine quality, quantity and competitive prices than many outstanding shops dealing in the wholesale and retail antique profession. Wilson County has more than 1,000 businesses to meet your evey shopping need. There are shopping centers convenient to every part of town, as well as a large enclosed mall and a thriving "downtown".
